Neil Mitchell:
Insurtech Advisor and Advocate

ABOUT

A Toronto area entrepreneur and businessman Neil Mitchell has more than three decades of insurance brokerage experience, with expertise in Risk Management, Property & Casualty Insurance and Insurtech.

After success in this challenging field, Neil shifted his focus to entrepreneurship. In 2018, he co-founded Players Health, an early-stage company specializing in insurance solutions and risk management services for athletes and sports organizations. As an early-stage and Series A investor, he raised capital from angel investors and venture capitalists, attracted talent, developed partnerships with name brands, secured re/insurance capacity, and built revenue producing relationships with clients.

In addition to co-founding and investing in Players Health, he served as an Executive Officer Board member and was the company’s President of Risk Services & Insurance Solutions. Although no longer involved in the operations of Players Health, he remains an active promoter, investor and shareholder in the organization and continues to assist and advise other early and emerging stage companies and their founders.

Following his tenure at Players Health, Neil built upon this startup success and experience to go onto mentor, advise and invest in a number of early and emerging stage Insurtech founder-led companies. His current advisory roles include Roam, 3MotionAI (formerly known as ProPlayAI and MyAbilities Technologies) and YouSet.

Before Players Health, Neil worked for Marsh Canada, a subsidiary of Marsh, a global leader in Insurance Broking and Risk Management. His career at Marsh Canada began in 1991 as a client executive. In the years that followed he assumed responsibilities in client management, business development, operations management, program/product development, retail and third-party distribution and business strategy.

During his tenure with Marsh Canada, he also served as a member of the company’s National Executive & Management Committee and as the National Practice Leader for Marsh Canada’s Consumer & Commercial Practice.

Neil describes himself as a weekend warrior who has finished two full distance Ironman events (Ironman USA Lake Placid, Ironman Canada Penticton) – both of which include the 26.2 mile marathon run – numerous short distance triathlons and road races, adventure races, and a number of charity long distance cycling events. Neil’s latest recreational goal is to run a Boston Marathon qualifying time and participate in the infamous Boston Marathon.

As a recreational endurance enthusiast, Neil has also combined his love of cycling and the great outdoors with philanthropic endeavors in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond, such as the Ride for Mental Health, Tour for Kids Ontario and the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride/ Coast to Coast Ride Against Cancer Foundation.
